Census SIPP 2025 · December 2024

Household wealth in Texas

Net worth is what a household owns minus what it owes. It includes home equity and retirement accounts, as well as cash and debts.

Texas median

About $159,000

Calculated from 1,076 sampled households living in Texas in December 2024.

National median

About $205,000

Calculated from 13,820 sampled households using the same household selection.

These are rounded survey estimates. Texas results are exploratory, with no replicate-weight confidence intervals. A small difference between groups does not establish a meaningful difference in wealth.

How wealth is distributed

Approximate household net worth in December 2024 dollars.
PercentileTexasUnited States
25th$12,300$20,800
50th (median)$159,000$205,000
75th$480,000$673,000
90th$1,310,000$1,810,000

The median splits the estimated distribution in half. The 90th percentile is an approximate threshold for the highest tenth of households. It is not a savings target.

Where the estimates come from

December (MONTHCODE=12) household reference persons (ERELRPE=1 or 2), living quarters TLIVQTR=1 or 2, unique SSUID and SHHADID, finite net worth and positive WPFINWGT. Median uses weighted midpoint interpolation; other percentiles use the inverse weighted cumulative distribution. Negative and zero wealth are included.

Cells with fewer than 100 sampled households are withheld by this site's publication rule. That cutoff does not prove statistical reliability. Raw household records and identifiers are not included in the site.

The national calculation matches the Census report at the report's published rounding. The display here uses coarser rounding. Texas and age-group figures are our calculations from the public file.
